The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Broken Top Chapter is proud to recognize Maya Anichini as the 2024–25 Safety Professional of the Year (SPY). This award honors a chapter member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, and commitment to advancing the safety profession within Central Oregon and beyond.
Maya’s involvement with ASSP spans more than a decade, dating back to her early years as a student member. Since the formation of the Broken Top Section—and later Chapter—Maya has been a consistent and enthusiastic advocate for professional development, collaboration, and community engagement in safety. Her long‑standing dedication to ASSP reflects both her passion for the profession and her belief in the value of strong professional networks.
Maya is currently serving as the Broken Top Chapter Vice President, continuing a record of exceptional service on the chapter’s Executive Committee. Prior to this role, she distinguished herself as Chapter Secretary, setting a new standard for the position. Her communications were widely praised as clear, timely, and informative. In addition to her communications work, Maya helped organize numerous chapter events and initiatives alongside the Executive Committee, contributing directly to the chapter’s continued growth and momentum.
Beyond the chapter level, Maya has also supported the broader safety community. In 2024, she joined the Central Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Association (COSHA) Fall Conference Planning Committee, where she brought forward thoughtful recommendations for session topics and speakers. Demonstrating a willingness to lead by example, Maya volunteered to present on emerging safety technologies—helping local safety professionals stay informed about evolving tools, trends, and opportunities shaping the future of the profession.
Professionally, Maya serves as a Global Senior HSE Program Manager with Yondr Group, a global developer, owner, and operator of hyperscale data centers. Maya brings a strong background in enterprise-level program management, high-risk work evaluation, and the development of people-focused safety culture that promotes effective risk management. Her career has been defined by a commitment to practical, people‑centered safety solutions and by a strong ability to translate regulatory requirements into effective, sustainable workplace practices. Colleagues and peers consistently recognize her technical proficiency, collaborative leadership style, and dedication to mentoring and professional development.
Maya’s passion for safety began during her studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sustainability, Health and Safety Management and a Master of Science in Environmental, Health and Safety Management. Since then, she has built a career rooted in continuous learning, cross‑industry experience, and an unwavering focus on protecting workers and strengthening safety culture.
The Broken Top Chapter Safety Professional of the Year Award is a once‑in‑a‑lifetime honor, recognizing individuals whose contributions have meaningfully advanced the safety profession.
